Rob Satterthwaite is a founder, managing partner, and portfolio manager of Blue Sea Investments, LLC, an event-driven long/short public-equity fund. For the past ten years, Blue Sea has focused heavily on investments in the pharmaceutical and medical device spaces, tracking patent litigation, loss of exclusivity events, FDA drug/device approvals, and other healthcare-related catalysts. From 2009 to 2018, Blue Sea generated returns to investors, net of all fees, in excess of 1100%.
Prior to co-founding Blue Sea, Rob was a litigation partner in the law firm of Russ August & Kabat, where he specialized in patent and commercial litigation. Prior to joining Russ August & Kabat, he was associated with the law firm of Munger Tolles & Olson, LLP, where he specialized in commercial litigation and internal investigations of Fortune 500 Companies. Prior to joining Munger Tolles & Olson, Rob served as a law clerk to two federal judges: Cynthia Holcomb Hall, United States Circuit Judge for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Wm. Matthew Byrne, Jr., United States District Court Judge for the Central District of California.
Rob attended UCLA, receiving a B.S. in Biology, and the USC School of Law, where he graduated first in his class, was elected to the Order of the Coif, served as a member of the USC Law Review, and was awarded the Arthur Manella Scholarship, a scholarship presented to one first-year law student annually on the basis of scholastic achievement. Rob currently resides on the Palos Verdes Peninsula in Southern California, along with his wife and two children. In his spare time, he can often be found in the ocean or on the roads training for an upcoming triathlon.
